Ericka O’Rourke

New Harbor based artist Ericka O’Rourke received her BFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University with concentrations in Printmaking, Photography and Ceramics.

Ericka achieved national recognition for her artistic talents at 16 years of age when her painting was chosen out of over 150,000 entries to earn a Scholastic Art Awards Gold Medal. The watercolor abstract would become her first official work of art sold when it was one of only 20 works selected to be purchased for Scholastic's New York Headquarters permanent art collection. At age 17, Ericka gained further recognition when she received the prestigious New Jersey Governor’s Art Award.

Ericka merged her love of art and reading into a successful creative commercial career working as a designer and illustrator in the New York City publishing industry for over 25 years. Working on site for Bantam Doubleday Dell and Penguin Random House, as well as freelance for Scholastic, Simon and Schuster, Barnes & Noble and others, Ericka's digital photo-illustration art has been published on over 300 book covers.

Over the years Ericka's artistic endeavors have also included owning The Copper Frog Art Gallery in Allentown, NJ, founding the Allentown Art Guild, a non-profit community arts organization, as well as being an Art Educator teaching classes and workshops in painting, drawing, digital art and ceramics to all ages from 8 to 80.

Ericka considers herself to be a passionately curious artist and lifelong learner. She is endlessly inspired by the beauty and inherent connections of the natural world. When not working in her New Harbor studio or creating, Ericka loves to read, hike, cook and thoroughly enjoy a good cup of coffee. She also enjoys spending quality time with her family and her husband, a retired game warden and their new addition, the nutty puppy Vizsla, Hazelnut.
